FORMER UFC star Tim Hague has died after suffering a devastating knockout during a boxing fight.
The 34-year-old was on life support after receiving a brutal blow to the head on the weekend but passed away on Monday morning (AEST), according to a statement released by his family on his sister’s Facebook page.
“It is with incredible sadness, sorrow and heartbreak to report that Tim has passed away today,” the statement read. “He was surrounded by family, listening to his favourite songs. We will miss him with (us) so greatly. We ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
Hague stepped in at short notice to take on Adam Braidwood at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Canada, on Saturday, but in the second round of the contest, Braidwood delivered a brutal left-right combination that sent Hague crashing to the canvas, The Sun reports.
The 34-year-old’s head bounced off the canvas in sickening fashion, and he laid motionless before the referee waved off the fight.
Although he did manage to get to his feet and walk out of the ring, he fell seriously ill backstage and was taken to the Royal Alexandra hospital in Edmonton.
He had been knocked down three times in the first round and a further two times in the second before it was waved off.

Writing on Facebook the following day, his sister Jackie Neil said: “Thanks folks for all your messages and kind words.
“Tim remains in critical condition. We are all with him.”
And his close friend and fellow MMA fighter Cody Krahn also posted on Facebook, writing: As many of you know Tim suffered a severe knockout in his boxing match.
“Once we got Tim backstage and with the doctor we could tell he needed to go to the hospital.
“Tim is currently in a coma. He had to have surgery to relieve pressure from his brain.”
However, Hague never recovered and he passed away.

Hague’s overall MMA record stands at 21 wins and 13 losses. He fought five times under the UFC banner between 2009 and 2011, winning his debut fight but losing his next four.
His final MMA fight was a loss to Michal Andryszak under the ACB banner in Russia in July last year.
Hague’s last fight in boxing resulted in a knockout in December. Prior to the Braidwood contest he had won one bout and lost two.
The tragedy has happened only a months before Conor McGregor swaps UFC for boxing when he fights Floyd Mayweather.
Tributes flowed on social media for the Canadian.
